This touching poem, written by\u00a0LCDR Roberto J. Prinselaar, USCG (Ret), is etched in stone at a Korean War Veteran\u2019s Memorial in the
\nLiberty State Park NJ Turnpike, Exit 14-B\u00a0 Jersey City, NJ<\/p>\n

There are several sculptures and other works of art that are well worth a visit.<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t do much talking,
\nWe didn\u2019t raise a fuss.
\nBut Korea really happened
\nSo please – remember us.<\/p>\n

We all just did our duty
\nBut we didn\u2019t win or lose.
\nA victory was denied us
\nBut we didn\u2019t get to choose.<\/p>\n

We all roasted in the summer
\nIn winter, we damn near froze.
\nWalking back from near the Yalu
\nWith our blackened frozen toes.<\/p>\n

Like the surf the Chinese kept coming
\nWith their bugles in the night.
\nWe fired into their masses
\nPraying for the morning light.<\/p>\n

All of us just had to be there
\nAnd so many of us died.
\nBut now we\u2019re all but half forgotten
\nNo one remembers how we tried.<\/p>\n

We grow fewer with the years now
\nAnd we still don\u2019t raise a fuss.
\nBut Korea really happened
\nSo please – remember us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
